Me seeing people interact and reblog that barbie movie ad knowing damn well it’s promotional material and therefore strike breaking but not wanting to tell them because then I’d have to interact with it and break strike also 😕
It’s not “strikebreaking” because the unions are not asking fans to stop talking about movies! There’s no official call for a boycott, and the promotional ban is for actors and influencers (as defined here by SAG-AFTRA), not fans and hobbyists. People who fall under the influencer umbrella, with large followings or any brand deals, should obviously refrain from promotional marketing, whether paid or organic; however, fan conversations are not being stopped by any union.
The union strategy right now is stopping work to dry up the content pipeline, moving forward into the fall TV season. Barbie was made before the strike, by artists who worked really hard. It’s okay to talk about it.
